Housing specification

It's important to have checklist of what is essential for a property and what is desirable. Without this it is all too easy to miss out essential requirements when in the middle of the buying process. The specification can be used to check each potential property objectively for suitability.

If financial assistance is being sought, the funder will need to agree to the specification. Sometimes funders have rules as to what is allowable, in terms of space and facilities, for a particular household size. These should be taken into account when deciding which items are desirable and which are essential.

The checklist, or specification, should be both realistic and realisable. If there is any doubt about what is required, an occupational therapist should be asked their opinion of the specification.
